Welcome to the GT Data Cleanup Site!GT Data Cleanup Campaign 2008As part of the President’s commitment to reducing Tech’s risk of sensitive data exposure, the Office of Information Technology has partnered with Office of Solid Waste Management & Recycling, the Library’s Records Management department, Procurement Services, Internal Auditing, and the Georgia Tech Information Security Center to host Georgia Tech’s first Data Cleanup Campaign. The Data Cleanup event is the start of an ongoing process to help develop a campus culture that operates with a minimal amount of sensitive information within each unit. Data protection does not start or end with this event we must exercise due diligence everyday. Faculty and staff are asked to remove outdated and infrequently accessed sensitive data files from their desktop computer(s). To do so, the files must first be located, then verified, and last but not least securely deleted or archived to a file server or removable media such as CD/DVD, encrypted USB drive etc. and stored in a controlled secure location. Sensitive files should only remain on a desktop if approved by the Department Head. We encourage departments and employees to get creative and make this a fun event. This can be a great opportunity to set aside a day or several days for employees to dress down and clean up their digital and paper files. Departments may also want to consider providing snacks, refreshments or lunch on one or more days for participants. If a department is doing something creative during the event, we want to hear from you so We can highlight it here for others For more information on what to do before, during, and after the Data Cleanup Campaign take a moment to review the entire web site as well as the following documents.
